SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Veteran Service Office will be hosting an open house Thursday, November 9 in recognition of its location and previous Veteran Service Officer Ron Gusman.

The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, at 920 Jackson St.

The open house will be an opportunity for the public to see the offices since they were moved from the county courthouse building.

In addition, the open house will be an opportunity to recognize former Veteran Service Officer Ron Gusman.

Gusman lived a life of service, according to Veteran Service Officer Fred Wiedeburg. Gusman was drafted after high school and served as an MP in Saigon, Vietnam. After service in the U.S. Army, he returned home and worked for the Nebraska State Patrol, retiring after 33 years as a sergeant. He then served as the Cheyenne County VSO for 13 years.

A plaque has been mounted to the building in memory of Gusman's years of service.
