POTTER - Downed power lines are being blamed for a grass fire near mile marker 37 on Interstate 80 on Nov. 19.

Potter Volunteer Fire Department Spokesman Bob Hilpert says the power lines stretched across both lanes of traffic. He says the majority of the fire was on the south side of the interstate, but there were also fires on the north side and median.

A traveler on I-80 called in the report.

High West Energy employees attempted to put out fires with extinguishers before the Potter Volunteer Fire Department responded with 7 vehicles and 13 firefighters.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
