The Kimball Longhorn girls and boys teams split their games against the Leyton Warriors in Dalton on Friday night.  The Lady Longhorns struggled to put points on the board once again, as they fell to the Lady Warriors 48-25. Kimball was outscored in every quarter but the 3rd, where they managed to outscore Leyton 12-10. However, the rest of the game was all Leyton. Individual stats were not available for Leyton, but Kimball was led by sophomore Addy Olson and Junior Rachel Berger. Olson tallied 7 points, including 4 free throws and 5 rebounds. Berger led the Kimball scoring with 8 points, including 5 free throws and 4 rebounds. Individual stats were not available for the lady Warriors.

In the boys’ contest, it was a tale of two different halves. The Longhorns jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, including a 3 pointer from soph. Trevor Fuss. The rest of the first half was a real battle, however, with Leyton playing extremely aggressive defense, and the two teams taking turns leading the game. Leyton led by 6 in the closing seconds of the half, but a thrilling 3 pointer from Kyler Lusche at the buzzer cut the Warriors’ lead to 3 going into the break. Kimball coaches Miller and Tjosvold must’ve worked some magic in the locker room at halftime, as Kimball emerged to start the second half as a team on fire!  The Longhorns’ defense was stifling in the 3rd quarter, and Kimball outscored Leyton 52-33 in the second half. In the end, Kimball finished with a lopsided 72-56 victory, remaining undefeated on the young season. Leyton dropped to 0-2. Offensively for Kimball, Junior Kyler Lusche led all scorers with 22 points, followed closely by senior Brandon Paxton with 18, and Sophomore Trevor Fuss with 10. Defensively, sophomore Braxton Miller had 8 steals on the night.

Next up for the Longhorns will be their home opener on December 5th, as the Garden County Eagles come to town.
