Potter, Dix firefighters respond to grass fire

Firefighters and emergency responders battled a grass fire and high winds December 7. Firefighters were called to Cheyenne County Roads 69 and 26.

WESTERN CHEYENNE COUNTY -- Potter Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request by the Dix Volunteer Fire Department December 7.

Potter was called to Cheyenne County Roads 69 and 26 at about 10:53 a.m. Wednesday, responding with 13 personnel and seven apparatus.

The fire was about 10 acres and burnt an old abandoned house. Controlling the fire was made more difficult due to winds gusting from 40 to 60 mph, according to a statement from the Potter Volunteer Fire Department. Also, on scene were Emergency Management, High West Energy, along with Dix Fire with four apparatus and six personnel.

Potter cleared the scene at 2 p.m. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
