Sidney Basketball Sweeps Weekend Clashes

The Sidney Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams swept a pair of weekend games to stay undefeated on the young season. A Friday trip to Torrington Wyoming saw the Lady Raiders hand Torrington a 55-39 loss while the Red Raiders disposed of the Trailblazers 59-39. Sidney returned to the Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Saturday for a Western Conference matchup with Alliance. The Lady Raiders used tenacious defense to down the Bulldogs 60-34 and the Red Raiders ran past Alliance 76-49 as both teams improved to 6-0 on the season.
The Lady Raiders struggled offensively at Torrington, shooting just 32% from the floor and hitting only 2 of 23 from outside the arc, However Sidney forced a season high 35 Trailblazer turnovers to secure their fifth win. Junior Carli Black scored a game-high 19 points off the bench while Jordan DeNovellis added 11 in the win.
On Saturday Sidney cured Friday’s shooting woes as the Lady Raiders got off to a hot start against Alliance. Sidney made six of nine shots, including two from long range, on the way to posting 21-12 first-quarter lead. The Lady Raiders held the Bulldogs to single-digit scoring the rest of the afternoon to secure their sixth victory. Karsyn Leeling paced Sidney with 17 points on the afternoon.
The Red Raiders took a 9-7 lead on a Alek Doty three pointer midway through the first quarter and never trailed again. Leading by four at halftime, sophomore Keian Kaiser scored 15 of his game-high 27 points in the third period to boost the Red Raider lead to 43-33. Junior Reid Fiscus chipped in 12 points in the win.
Saturday saw the Red Raiders use a balanced attack to pull away from Alliance in the second half. Leading 33-26 at intermission, Sidney outscored the Bulldogs 43-23 in the second half to notch their sixth win. Senior Isak Doty scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead four Raiders in double figures. Sophomore Alek Doty, junior Landon Riddle, and senior Luke Uhlir contributed 15 points each to the win.
Sidney begins a busy week to finish the pre-Christmas schedule. The Lady Raiders and Red Raiders host Western Conference foe Gering at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Tuesday before hitting the road Thursday when they travel to Holdrege for a date with the Dusters.
