No. 1 Sidney beats Scottsbluff to claim Western Conference Tournament Championship
SCOTTSBLUFF - Junior Kayla Westby had a team high 12 points and the Sidney girls basketball team defeated Scottsbluff, 51-42, in the Western Conference Tournament Championship at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Ryan Dillehay chipped in 11 points to help the No. 1 Lady Raiders improve to 18-0 this season. Sidney beat Mitchell in the first round of the conference tournament, 80-14, and Gering in the semifinals, 56-41.
The Lady Raiders return to action on Friday when they travel to Gering for a rematch with the Bulldogs. They play Scottsbluff again next Saturday at home.
Sophomore Ava Reed led the Bearcats with a game high 17 points.
Scottsbluff defeated Sterling, Colo. in the first round, 54-18, and North Platte in the semifinals, 50-32. They're now 11-8 this season.
Class B No. 8 Scottsbluff (14-4) claimed the boys Western Conference Tournament Championship with a 67-60 win over Class C1 No. 5 Sidney Saturday night at WNCC.
Sophomore Rylee Meininger finished with 23 points and sophomore Nate Kelley added 17 for the Bearcats. Scottsbluff topped Mitchell (83-42) and Gering (67-48) to reach the championship game.
Sidney (16-2) sophomore Keian Kaiser had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds in the Red Raiders second loss of the season. Sidney had wins over Alliance (72-41) and North Platte (66-53) in the first two rounds of the tournament.
Before the two teams rematch next Saturday, Scottsbluff hosts Alliance on Friday while Sidney travels to Gering.
