Verizon experiencing outage in southern Nebraska Panhandle

Verizon customers in Sidney, Potter and Chappell were without cell service early Thursday afternoon.

SIDNEY - Verizon customers in Sidney, Potter and Chappell were without cell service early Thursday afternoon. 

Limited details on the service outage were available as of 1 p.m. Thursday. There was no time table announced when service would return. City lines were restored at 3:01 p.m.

CenturyLink landlines were also affected by the outage. 

The Cheyenne County Communications Center said the issue was being addressed.

The outage knocked out phone services to the City of Sidney offices, including the city's transportation unit. 

A Panhandle Alert was issued at 1:50 p.m. announcing City of Sidney landfill lines are unable to call 911. To report an emergency, call 911 from a cell phone, or call 308-254-2880.
