Stolen vehicle recovered, driver arrested near Kimball

A suspect is in custody after authorities stopped a vehicle identified as stolen from the Mitchell area.

KIMBALL -- Kimball Police saw a vehicle reported stolen from the Mitchell area at the Kwik Stop in Kimball early this morning.  

Kimball police reported seeing the vehicle in question shortly after midnight this morning. 

Officers were able to confirm that the motor vehicle in question was the stolen vehicle of Mitchell, and upon attempting contact, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee. A pursuit started, which ended when the driver lost control on a county road, causing the stolen vehicle to be disabled in the ditch. 

Garrett Rust, 23, was taken into custody following treatment for injuries. He was arrested on charges including Driving Under the Influence, Theft By Receiving Stolen Property, Willful Reckless Driving and Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest. 

Kimball Police were assisted by the Kimball County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Kimball Fire Department and EMS team.
