Garden County's Cable Larsen earns first state wrestling championship as freshman

OMAHA - Garden County Freshman Cable Larsen's individual state title at 120 pounds led the Eagles to a 7th place finish in the Class D teams standings at the 2024 Nebraska School Activities Association State Wrestling Championships at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on Saturday afternoon.

Larsen won by fall over Colt Kromarek, of Plainview, in 3:55 to finish his first year of varsity wrestling with a 38-9 record. His pin was one of three on the weekend. He also won by fall over Canon Holley, of Central Valley, in 5:04 in the quarterfinals and a pin in 3:44 in the semifinals over Treu Atkins, of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller.

Garden County had two other wrestlers on the medal podium. Jase Roberson ended his freshman season in 5th place at 126 pounds and Gunner Roberson ends his wrestling career at Garden County with a sixth place finish at 165 pounds. 

Wyatt Reichenberg, of Banner County, finished runner-up at 190 pounds in Class D. Reichenberg lost by decision to Brett Bridger, of Fullerton, 6-0. Rechenberg finishes the season with a record of 32-10. 

In Colorado, Grant Statz, of Sedgwick County/Fleming won first place in the Class 2A 157 pound bracket. Stantz (30-4) won by decision over Angel Vela, of Burlington, 6-5.
