Fatal accident claims three members of University of Wyoming swim team

Colorado State Patrol are investigating the cause of a fatal accident that claimed three lives from the University of Wyoming swim team February 22.

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. --  At 2:44 p.m. Thursday, February 22,  the Colorado State Patrol and local emergency services responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 287 near Red Mountain Road in Larimer County.   

A Toyota RAV4 with five occupants traveling southbound went off the left shoulder and rolled multiple times. Two occupants were ejected from the vehicle. 

Of the five occupants, three were deceased and two were transported to area medical facilities with non-life threatening injuries. 

The deceased occupants are a  22-year-old man, 21 year-old-man and 18-year-old woman. A 21-year-old male and a 20-year-old male were injured in the crash. The Colorado State Patrol is working with the University of Wyoming and has confirmed the deceased parties were members of the University of Wyoming swim team.  

They were not believed to be traveling for an official school function at the time of the crash. 

The crash is being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol and is still considered to be in its early stages. The cause and other possible factors remains under investigation.
