Authorities investigating major house fire in Scotts Bluff County

The Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Department is asking for prayers for a  Scottsbluff family who lost their home and pets in a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY - The Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Department is asking for prayers for a  Scottsbluff family who lost their home and pets in a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Carissa Schank-Grubbs says they were dispatched to a fully engulfed structure fire on Haig Road at approximately 4:38 p.m. 75% of the home was in flames when the fire department arrived. 

According to Schank-Grubbs, their efforts were challenged with strong wind gusts. Mutual aid was requested from Mitchell, Gering, Morrill and Lyman. A total of 30 firefighters responded to the scene and 114,000 gallons of water was hauled in to extinguish the blaze. All units cleared the scene at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. 

The home and contents were deemed a loss at $1 million.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office was on scene to investigate the fire.

The Scottsbluff County Sheriff’s Office, Regional West EMS, Scottsbluff County Road Department and Scottsbluff County Communication Center assisted with the fire.
