SIDNEY -- Joe Broekemeier and his wife Alex were announced March 28 as the new owners of The Insurance Store Thursday afternoon.
Broekemeier said he has a history of knowing people in the insurance industry.
"I grew up in Central Nebraska, in Aurora, and I've always been, you know, grew up with a neighbor that had an insurance agency, so I've always saw the value of insurance. And I've been insurance for 13 years now," he said.
Broekemeier said Dennis and Kay Hicks worked hard to build The Insurance Store.
"That's what we want to build upon. We don't want to change anything. We're not going to come in here and upset the cart. They did it for 40 years and they did it the right way," Broekemeier said.
He said he is thankful for their leadership and building the company.
Alex Weiss was added to the Sidney office as a Producer.
"I grew up in the ag world, so, moved from Kansas. We were going to move to Kearney, my wife Callie and I, Joe and Alex Broekemeier, they bought Callie's uncle's business in Kearney. So we were going to move there. Joe and Alex were wanting to grow in the ag industry so they thought we would be a good fit. They're great people and I wanted to work for them, so we said 'we're going to move to Kearney,'" Weiss said.
He said a little while later, they had an opportunity to move to his wife's family ranch north of Lodgepole. They have been in Cheyenne County since February.
