Authorities searching for suspect in hammer attack that left a man injured in Gering

The Gering Police Department is looking for the suspect in connection with a hammer attack that injured a man late Wednesday morning.

GERING, Neb. (KNOP) - The Gering Police Department is looking for the suspect in connection with a hammer attack that injured a man late Wednesday morning.

According to law enforcement, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of 20th Street at approximately 11:58 a.m.. They were told that victim was at a neighbor’s house asking for help.

Officers met with the victim who was bleeding from his head and face and were able to determine that the victim was assaulted inside his home. The victim said that while he was inside his house, a man he didn’t know came through the front door and began hitting him in the head with a hammer. The victim said they got into a scuffle until the suspect eventually drove away.

The victim was treated on scene by members of the Gering Fire Department and then transported to Regional West Medical Center emergency room by Valley Ambulance.

The victim described the suspect as male, either Hispanic or Asian decent, approximately 5′8″ to 6 feet tall and stocky build. Officers searched the neighborhood and are actively trying to locate the suspect’s vehicle. His identity has not been released.
