Kimball Public Schools Superintendent receives award at FFA Convention

KIMBALL -- The Nebraska State FFA Association awarded Trevor Anderson, superintendent of Kimball Public Schools, with an Honorary State FFA Degree at the annual convention April 3. 

This award is given to individuals who support agricultural education. Anyone can nominate an individual they think is deserving of the award, then the association goes through their own selection process. 

“To me, personally, it’s a really good honor to get this award,” Anderson said. “In my role as an administrator, I always try to promote agricultural education, promote the FFA, and do what I can to help out our supervisors in their roles.” 

Anderson said Emily Sours, the agricultural teacher and FFA sponsor, has done an exceptional job this year. 

FFA started out as the Future Farmers of America with its sole focus on farming, but now it’s expanded beyond that. 

“It’s not just kids who are active in farming, it’s city kids who are involved because of the leadership skill that you are able to acquire by being part of it.” 

The benefits Anderson said he has seen from the students being involved in FFA are the development of leadership and public speaking skills. 

Kimball High School senior students on the Food Sciences team also won FFA degrees at the convention. Grace Anderson placed first, Julia Winstrom placed second, Carlee Murdoch placed third, and Hayden Sours placed sixth. Senior Student Landon Norberg also placed fourth in the Ag Technology & Mechanics team. 

“Kudos to them for putting in the time and effort to obtain their state degrees,” Anderson said. 

The next convention dates are April 2-4, 2025.
