KIMBALL -- The Jr./Sr. High school is hosting its first Longhorn Recognition Night to award students in academics, music, athletics and activities achievements.

In the past, the school has held an athletics award ceremony separate from an academics one, but this is the first year they’ve combined it into one big event. It will be held May 6 at 6 p.m. in the Kimball High School auditorium.

Jr./Sr. High School Counselor Stephanie Kitchens says it’s important that the school acknowledges its students’ accomplishments beyond athletics because the community doesn't always get to see the academic side of things.

Kitchens says. “Very few of our kids are involved in only one thing, so the fact that they can maintain their grades while participating in all these different activities — it’s important that we recognize their efforts.”

Every student from seventh to twelfth grade will be recognized in some capacity whether it be for honor roll, awards received at competitions, music awards, testing awards, scholarship or athletic recognition, and so many more.

"Anything you can think of that we can give an award out for — we give out that night," Kitchens says.
