'Off the Rails' mower ride will go from Bridgeport to Sidney for chance to win lawn tractor this summer
SIDNEY - For the third time in four years 21st Century Equipment in Sidney will give radio listeners of 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country a chance to win big this summer.
Territory Sales Manager Joel Ahrens announced Wednesday the John Deere dealership will give away a 42-inch S220 lawn tractor to one of the finalists who has the closest guess on how many miles the riding mower will go on one tank of gas.
"It's a nice little ride," Ahrens said. "It's a lawn tractor, not a Z-track. We did a Z-track last year. We are going to put a little 10P utility cart behind it. You can use that for lawn mulch, weeds and sticks. That will be the package we're giving away this year."
The deadline to submit guesses to the nearest tenth of a mile with 21st Century Equipment, the Logan County Fair and Rodeo, Sutton Home Gallery and The Rusty Bucket Pub and Grub is Friday, Aug. 30. The Big Boy morning show host Hunter Arterburn will drive the mower on Highway 385 from Bridgeport to Sidney on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Finalists with the closest guesses to the nearest tenth of a mile will compete for the lawn tractor by driving it through an obstacle course at 21st Century Equipment in Sidney on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The finalist with the quickest time through the course will win the lawn tractor and utility cart.
Registration is now open at participating businesses across the Nebraska Panhandle, northeast Colorado and southeast Wyoming.
Ahrens says he and the company - who've given away three different riding lawn mowers during the "Off the Rails" contest - love being a part of, and in, the community.
"It gets a lot of eyes and ears on the radio," Ahrens said. "A lot of audience out here to the store for registrations. I love how you guys do the drone video when we're driving down the highway. It's just a great promotion here in town."
Last year, a John Deere Z330M zero-turn riding lawn mower made it 27.5 miles from Chappell to Sidney on Highway 30. 23 people guessed within one tenth of a mile. Five people guessed the exact mileage. Sam Behrends, of Sidney, won the mower when he clocked the quickest time through the obstacle course.
Ahrens says if you'd like to find more information about the John Deere S220 lawn tractor to assist with your guess this summer, you can find brochures at the store at 1920 Link 17J in Sidney or log onto 21stcenturyequipment.com.
