Kimball parents arrested following discovery of juvenile driver
KIMBALL -- Two Kimball residents were arrested following a traffic stop the night of June 6.
Forty-three-year-old Derick Metcalf and 41-year-old Cora Robinson were arrested and charged with two counts of Child Abuse and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Metcalf and Robison have bonded-out since their arrest, which was set at $5,000 each, according to Kimball County Sheriff David Hottell.
Around 9 p.m. on June 6 Kimball police officers observed a motor vehicle failing to stay in its lane. Upon pulling the vehicle over, the vehicle collided with a parked motor vehicle.
The officers discovered the driver to be a 12-year-old juvenile. In the vehicle was another 12-year-old juvenile and the parents of the driver. The officers also found evidence that the parents were intoxicated.
Chief of Police Jose Ruiz says the juvenile driver was released to immediate family, and the long-term custody will still need to be determined. The juvenile’s case has been forwarded to the county attorney for further review.
The Kimball County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
The Kimball Police Department states that all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
