The Seat plane was called in to assist with the fire. Mutual aid was requested from Gering, Mitchell, Minatare, Game and Parks, Morrill, Scottsbluff Fire, Banner Fire Department, Bayard Fire and Western Nebraska Regional Airport. We also appreciate the local farmers and their discs and water tanks.
The fire consumed 167 acres, 1 vehicle, 1 garage and three sheds. The Nebraska State fire marshal’s office investigated this fire. The fire was believed to have been started by a rekindle of a burn pile.
Also assisting were Regional West EMS, Scottsbluff County Sheriffs’ Department, Scottsbluff County Communications and Nebraska State Fire Marshall. Units cleared scene at about 7 p.m.
Earlier today, the National Weather Service reported the temperature in the Scottsbluff area at 81 degrees with humidity at 39 percent and the dewpoint at 54ºF. Heat is expected to continue through next week with temperatures expected in the high 90s and into the 100s.
Due to high temperatures and low humidity, the Bridgeport Rural Fire District will not be issuing burn permits for the next two weeks. The Fire Department issued a fire ban for the next two weeks due to high temperatures and low humidity; no burn permits will be issued for the next two weeks. The Bridgeport Rural Fire Department will re-evaluate weather conditions at that time.
