Firefighters respond to grass fire near Stoneham
Several departments responded to a grass fire near Stoneham, Colo., that burned a little more than 1,800 acres July 28.
STONEHAM, Colo. -- At 4 p.m. July 28, Stoneham/New Raymer volunteer firefighters were dispatched to MM 218 Highway 71 for a large ground cover fire.
Mutual Aid was requested while enroute and quickly called for additional units upon arrival. About 10 agencies with more than 20 apparatus responded to help battle this large, wind driven fire.
The fire changed directions several times through the course of the afternoon. Firefighters estimated a little more than 1,800 acres burned in the fire. The fire was measured at just over 1,800 acres. Without our mutual aid, we would have lost this fire, and much more than pasture land. Thank you to all the agencies that responded to assist.
