Fundraiser raffle underway for Tim Herrera

SIDNEY -- Tim Herrera is described as a man who has heart, and would do most anything for a friend in need. He is now needing friends to help him.
One of Herrera's friends, Brent Barnes, says Herrera turned ill shortly after starting retirement in July 2023.
"Tim retired after 26 years at the local county jail last July. When he started his life in retirement, last April, he had a stroke. He continues to be paralyzed on the right side of his body. He's had multiple minor issues since then compared to the stroke, but issues that have left him hospitalized for days at a time," Barnes said.
He is expecting to need more than a year to recover. A raffle is being held at NexGen Outfitters at $20 per ticket. Proceeds go to help the Herrera family.
Barnes said it will be at least a year and a half before Herrera is recovered enough to be able to go back to work. He said he wants to help Herrera in part because he has been willing to help Barnes' family when needed.
"I've know Tim for about 15 years. He's always been a friend of mine. We've gotten closer over the years. I worked with him the last 3 1/2 years before he retired," he said.
Herrera has also been involved in community softball in Sidney.
"In 2013 when I needed a helping hand the most, not for me, but for my family's sake, he was right there. I've always lived by if you have the ability to help someone who is truly in need, you should do it," he said.
Barnes describes Herrera as one of the best people he's ever met in his life.
Tickets are $20 each and will be drawn September 13, Friday the 13th, at NexGen Outfitters.
