SCOTTSBLUFF - An inmate from the Scotts Bluff County Corrections facility briefly escaped from a work detail in downtown Scottsbluff Wednesday morning, prompting a multi-agency search.

21-year-old Aaron J. Wilder Jr. walked away from an outdoor work crew, which was being supervised by a corrections officer, at approximately 9:55 a.m. Wilder, who was wearing a blue jail-issued uniform at the time, is serving time for various misdemeanor charges and was not considered dangerous, according to officials.

The Scottsbluff Police Department was alerted to Wilder's escape at 9:58 a.m., and a search effort quickly ensued, involving officers from multiple local agencies. Authorities also identified a white 2024 Toyota Corolla as a vehicle of interest.

Wilder was apprehended by law enforcement at approximately 11:15 a.m. There were no reports of injuries or incidents related to his brief time at large.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the escape.
