D. Steven Grothe, 63, of Hastings, Nebraska passed away peacefully at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings on September 19, 2024, following a brief illness.

D. Steven Grothe, 63, of Hastings, Nebraska passed away peacefully at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings on September 19, 2024, following a brief illness. 

Memorial and interment services will be held later at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Steve was born October 1, 1960 in Sidney, Nebraska and graduated from Potter Public School. He entered the Navy on February 15, 1979, serving on board the USS Peary as an Electrician's Mate, rising to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was honorably discharged April 28, 1983.

He settled in Hastings, where he was the owner/operator of a bar for several years before working as a Service Technician at various companies.

Steve is survived by his mother Carol J. Grothe, Rapid City, SD; brothers Scott Grothe, Williston, ND; Robert (Coral) Grothe, Sheffield Village, OH; and sister Linda (Mark) Stepanek, Rapid City, SD; 8 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Kenneth Grothe.
