SIDNEY - Western and north central Nebraska residents are bracing for a temperature drop Sunday night into Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning across the region, including Oshkosh, Ogallala, Gordon and Imperial. Temperatures are expected to plunge into the 20s and lower 30s, marking the first hard freeze for many areas this season.

A Frost Advisory has also been issued for Goshen County, eastern Laramie County and the southwestern corner of the Nebraska Panhandle. Other regions in east central Wyoming and the rest of the Nebraska Panhandle, which already had their first freeze a week or two ago, will also see similar conditions Sunday night.

The cold snap comes after a stretch of warmer weather. The weather service is predicting cooler, more seasonable conditions through mid-week. Dry weather and mostly sunny skies are expected to continue through Wednesday with south winds becoming gusty, reaching speeds between 35 to 45 mph by Wednesday.

Residents are advised to take precautions to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing from freezing temperatures.
