GERING - The first round of the Nebraska School Activities Association Class B and Class C Girls State Golf Championships teed off Monday at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering and Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte. 

In Class B, Elkhorn North leads the team standings with a total score of 349 (+61), putting them six strokes ahead of Omaha Duchesne Academy, which sits at 355 (+67). Norris follows in third place with a team score of 367 (+79).

Reese Gloystein, of Elkhorn North, and Natalie Shield, of Norris, both shot an 81 (+9) and are tied for the lead in the individual standings. Close behind is Omaha Duchesne Academy's Whitney Dahir at 82 (+10) and Hannah Swanson, of Lincoln Pius X and Annabelle Bang, of Elkhorn, rounding out the top five at 83 (+11).

Minden leads the Class C team competition after day one with a score of 346 (+58). Wayne is second at 352 (+64), and Sutton and West Holt are tied for third with a score of 376 (+88).

A pair of Minden golfers are tied at the top in the individual standings. Kara Suchsland and KayLynn Jorgensen both shot a 77 (+5). Carli Canham of Wayne is right behind them with a score of 78 (+6).

The final round of the NSAA Girls State Golf Championships is on Tuesday. Weather conditions are expected to remain favorable for competition.
