Duchesne, Wayne capture girls state golf titles at NSAA championships

GERING - The Omaha Duchesne Academy girls golf team claimed the Nebraska School Activities Association Class B State Championship Tuesday at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering.
The Cardinals finished with a two-day total of 704 (+128), edging out Elkhorn North by just one stroke. Norris rounded out the top three with a score of 748 (+172). Scottsbluff was fourth at 756.
Individually, Duchesne’s Whitney Dahir captured the individual title with a two-day score of 157 (+13) after rounds of 82 and 75. Scottsbluff’s Addison Peck took second place, finishing with a total of 163 (+19), while Natalie Shield of Norris placed third at 167 (+23). Elkhorn North’s Chelsea Mahloch and Duchesne’s Kasha Stolberg rounded out the top five with scores of 169 (+25) and 170 (+26), respectively.
Sidney finished eighth as team. They were led by senior Claire Jordan's 14th place. She tied with two other girls at 182.
In Class C, Wayne High School won the team title with a two-day total of 696 (+120), narrowly beating out Minden, which finished at 697 (+121). West Holt placed third with a total score of 739 (+163).
The Blue Devil's title was bolstered by the efforts of Joslyn Johnson. She placed fifth individually with a score of 166 (+22).
Minden’s Kara Suchsland claimed the individual title with a 154 (+10), while Mia Hiebner of Heartland and Minden’s KayLynn Jorgensen tied for second place, both posting scores of 156 (+12).
Scotus Central Catholic and Sutton finished fourth and fifth in the Class C team standings, with scores of 751 (+175) and 754 (+178), respectively.
Chadron finished 10th and Ogallala wrapped up the season in 12th place. Reese Ribera, of Ogallala, tied for 13th with a two-day total of 180.
