Voters turn out in numbers
SIDNEY -- Two hours into the 2024 General Election, Cheyenne County election booths were busy and no sign of slowing down.
Cheyenne County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh said early voting closed Monday night with more than 1,550 casting their ballot before election day; much higher than a typical election, according to Fiegenschuh.
Voters need to come to the poll with a photo ID, Fiegenschuh said. She said it must be a photo ID. Examples include a drivers license, a hospital staff ID, State ID, nursing home/assisted living ID, military ID, Nebraska college ID.
“It has to be a photo. If you don’t bring a photo ID, but you have one, you have until next Wednesday to bring a photo ID to my office, but it has to be a Nebraska photo ID,” she said.
The Cheyenne County Clerk’s Office is at 1000 10th Ave., Sidney.
More than 80 million mail-in and early in-person votes have been cast, according to the U.S. Secretary of State.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. In Cheyenne County Precincts 1-5 vote at the Exhibit Center, Cheyenne County Fairgrounds; Precinct 6 (Gurley) votes at the Salem Lutheran Church; Precinct 7 (Lodgepole) votes at the Lodgepole Community Hall, Precinct 8 (Potter) votes at the Potter Fire Hall and Precinct 9 (Union Valley/Dalton) votes at the Assembly of God Church.

She commended the poll workers for their dedication to the General Election.
“I would like to thank our poll workers. There is roughly 45 poll workers between Sidney and the villages. They have great dedication which I appreciate. They are at the polls at 6 a.m. setting up polls, for the polls to open at 7 a.m. So, if you ever see a poll worker thank them because it’s a dedication and duty ... that they see as a duty to serve,” Fiegenschuh said.
