Sidney's Parade of Lights set for December 7
SIDNEY -- North 10th Avenue and Hickory Street is blocked to motorized traffic in preparation for Saturday's Holiday in Hickory celebration.
"This year the theme for it is the 'Disney-Inspired Christmas.' So, we're hoping to see a lot of Goofies, Micky Mouses, things Disney-like. So far, we've got around 13 floats,'" said organizer Christine Radtke.
She said there is still time for an organization to enter the Parade of Lights.
"I will take more clear up until Saturday if you'll just give me a call. Here at work is 308-254-7070 or 308-254-4441, and enter it in. Lineup is nothing like Oktoberfest. It's really simple and easy," Radtke said.
Floats are to check in at 14th Avenue and Jackson Street at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Check in with Radtke and she will provide a number to line up on Jackson Street. The parade is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Lighting of the tree is scheduled for immediately after the parade.
There will also be a photo booth hosted by Charlotte & Emerson, S'Mores by Pedalers Corner, Hot Cocoa by Sidney Regional Medical Center, ornament kits by the Sidney Public Library, and candy canes provided by Black Hills Energy.
"It starts on 1400 (Jackson Street), heads east to 8th, 9th, and then it turns off and goes across the street to Hickory if you want to go to Hickory Square and celebrate, see Santa there," she said.
There will be a chili feed 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hickory Square, sponsored by Runza. 21st Century will be hosting hayrides from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and candlelight tours will be offered by the Historical Society.
