Traffic stop leads to arrest for felony possession

Alliance Police arrest Texas man in traffic stop for possession of a controlled substance. The driver was cited for speeding and released.

ALLIANCE -- At about 11:36 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2024, Officer Parker Dahlberg conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Durango for speeding.  

The driver was stopped for speeding 66 mph in a posted 50 mph zone. The SUV was registered with a Florida License plate. 

The vehicle was occupied by two men from Texas claiming to be on their way to Denver from South Dakota. During the traffic stop, Officer Dahlberg noted the odor of marijuana present near the vehicle.  

Consent was obtained to search the vehicle. During the search, officers located used syringes consistent with narcotic use.  

Additionally, a vile containing approximately 10 grams of suspected heroin was located in a small bag which the rear seat passenger claimed ownership of.  

The passenger, Shawn Baxter, 39, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance. The driver of the vehicle, Dante Lozoya, 26, was cited and released for speeding, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
