SIDNEY -- The Sidney Police Department has received reports of a potential phone scam targeting residents involving the police department.

Individuals are reportedly calling from a 531 area code falsely claiming to be fundraising on behalf of the department. While the Sidney Police Department appreciates the community's support, authorities caution that the police department is not conducting any fundraising efforts.

"We urge residents to exercise caution and refrain from providing personal information or money to anyone claiming to be soliciting donations for the police department. If you receive such a call, please hang up and report the incident to the Sidney Police Department," Interim Chief Sam Lovato said.
