Robert L. Johnson was born on December 24, 1967, in Sidney, Nebraska to Kent and Geraldine Johnson. He was the oldest of five boys and spent most of his youth helping on the family farm.
He began school in Kimball and graduated from Dix in 1986. He competed in Basketball, track and football.
Robert married Nancy Rolls in December of 1991 in Chadron, NE. He worked at Fur Trade skinning. He worked for Cabela’s in Sidney. Later he became a harvester for Wright’s Trucking, then got his CDL and began hauling cattle for them.
He met his future wife Lisa Johnson in June of 2000. Their daughter Kirsten Renae was born in January of 2002. When Kirsten was two months old Rob became paralyzed and was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He received a stem cell transplant when the cancer returned the following year. Rob and Lisa were married in August of 2004, and he became stepfather to Trevor and Kelsey Franklin.
He received his associates in Gunsmithing in 2005. He lost his father while attending school and determined to help his mother with farming after he graduated. He even bought a half section of ground near her. He spent most weekends working on the farm and spent many years farming with his grandfather Warren Johnson. When asked what he wanted to do on Father’s Day each year he would ask that the family help him pull rye.
In 2007 Kirsten asked for a baby cow. He surprised her with Buddy followed by several bottle calves and eventually a herd of cattle. He also asked if he could bring her a “lamb” when he arrived with her, she was full grown, she had never been around people and was so wild that she would run into the two buildings at each end of her pen at full speed. He named her Dolly and after a couple years she would follow him around like a dog.
Rob enjoyed arrowhead hunting, team roping, hunting, fishing, pool leagues, the Huskers and bowling. This last summer he floated down the Niobrara with Kirsten and Jake. He floated with his jeans on and a couple of oxygen tanks in tow. He spent the last several days of his life getting to know his brand-new grandson, Nash.
Robert is survived by his daughter Kirsten Johnson (Jakob Trosper) of Dunning, NE, his grandson Nash Trosper of Dunning, NE, his mother Geraldine Johnson of Kimball, NE, his brothers Brad Johnson of Sidney, NE, Jeff Johnson of Potter, NE, Jay Johnson of Sidney, NE and Jed Johnson of Bushnell, NE, his grandmother Margaret Johnson of Sidney, NE, and many more loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Wendell and Shirley Matthewson, Warren Johnson, and his father Kent Johnson.
