Pine Bluffs continues soup contest, movie night tradition

PINE BLUFFS, WY -- The community will join for its fourth adult soup contest and movie night this week.
The Pine Bluffs Recreation is hosting its annual Soup Contest and “Pick a Movie Night” for adults only on Feb. 7 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m at the Pine Bluffs Community Center.
Pine Bluffs Recreation Director Sonja Fornstrom invites everyone to make their favorite crockpot soup to enter for a chance to win a prize.
“We all try each other’s soups, then everyone votes on their favorite one in each category, then their favorite overall soup,” Fornstrom said.
The three categories of soups are cream-based, broth-based, and chicken noodle.
The grand prize of the best overall soup is a new Crockpot and being crowned the “Soup Nazi” of the year in honor of the Seinfeld episode.
The winners of the individual categories will receive Pine Bluffs swag gifts.
The second portion of the event is the movie and trivia game.
Once you’re done voting for your favorite soups, you then watch the trailers of the movie options and vote for which movie you would like to watch. Then, the movie with the most votes is what gets played.
“We go on and do a small movie trivia and give away small prizes – we do a trivia question on each of the movies,” Fornstrom said. “We hand out Valentine’s Day cups full of candy for the winners of the trivia contest.”
Fornstrom said they try to offer a little bit of everything – rom-com, western, true story, comedy, drama.
This year’s choices are: Fly Me to the Moon, Murder Mystery 2, Armageddon, End of the Rope, Flight Risk, Twisters, The Six Triple Eight.
“It’s just a fun night to get together; everybody loves soups especially this time of year, so I thought we’ll do a soup contest and pair that together with a movie and make a night out of it,” Fornstrom said.
Be sure to bring a comfy chair and a blanket. Free popcorn and lemonade or water will be available, or you are welcome to bring your own beverage. For any questions, reach out to Sonja Fornstrom at 307-245-3301 or Heather at 307-245-9375.
