Winter storm watch issued Tuesday night for counties near Kansas border

HASTINGS, Neb.- The National Weather Service in Hastings is warning residents near the border with Kansas to be prepared for potentially hazardous winter conditions early this week.  

The NWS recently put out a news release saying Monday night may include some "hit-and-miss" snow, with Tuesday night being the "main event of the week."

15 Nebraska counties along the Kansas border are in a winter storm watch from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m Wednesday night. 

Snow expected Tuesday night will be more widespread and will include heavier snow, with the highest amounts are expected along the KS border, with lower amounts farther north.

Several Nebraska counties north of the current watch will likely be placed under an advisory as it gets closer in time. 

Wind is not currently expected to be a major factor, with 20 mph being the maximum gusts anticipated.
