West Elementary teacher, counselor announces new chapter in life

Carla Brauer has an endless list of students and former students in her 42 years, closer to 43, she has been in education. She closes the book on her formal role at the end of this school year.

Board accepts Brauer's retirement announcement

SIDNEY -- West Elementary teacher and counselor announced her retirement in a letter to the Sidney Public School District administration and board.

She is closing more than four decades in Sidney classrooms.

"At the end of this school term, I will be wrapping up 42 years as an educator with the Sidney Public Schools family. My journey actually started 43 years ago as I was fortunate to do my student teaching in the fall of 1982," she said in her letter.

Following her student teaching experience in the Sidney School District, she served as a substitute teacher during the spring of 1983. In her letter, she thanked the community for more than 40 years in the Sidney community.

"Sidney the community, and Sidney Public Schools has been an amazing place to make a life, raise a family, learn teach and share. I'm very proud of being an educator who has achieved longevity within our community," she said.

She says her career has been "a true calling and gift." She said life is a series seasons: choosing to start, to stay and to go. She plans to spend time with family including her granddaughter, friends and just a simpler lifestyle.
