   Betty Jane Gabel, age 94, of Sidney, NE, passed away in Scottsbluff, NE on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Brenda Pfiefly officiating.  Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website.  Cremation has taken place.  Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make a donation to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney.

   Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 1-6 to leave condolences for the family, the family will not be present.    Betty Jane Gabel, the daughter of Peter and Eva (Brill) Schnell, was born on May 20, 1930, in Minatare, NE. At a young age Betty’s Family moved to Lodgepole, NE where she attended school. The family then moved to the Sidney draw area.

  On August 26, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Elmer Gabel in Scottsbluff, NE. They moved to Sidney and began farming west of town. In the spring of 1972, the family moved into town, where Betty continued working at Memorial Hospital for 25 plus years.

   She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   Betty is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (husband John) of Scottsbluff, NE, son Greg (wife Teri) of Sidney, NE, grandchildren, Ashley (husband Josh) Krzywicki of Cheyenne, WY, Tyler (wife Nicole) Gabel, of Pine Bluffs, WY, and Chelsea (husband Levi) Rood of Cheyenne, WY, great-grandchildren Brea & Rylan Krzywicki of Cheyenne, WY, Barrett & Addy Gabel of Pine Bluffs, WY,  Reece Rood of Cheyenne, WY, sister Edna Jantz of Lochbuie, CO, and brother Donald Schnell of Hubbard, TX.

  She is preceded in death by her husband Elmer, and parents Peter and Eva Schnell.
