Margaret M. “Marie” Sain, age 105 of Sidney, NE passed away at Pole Creek Estates on Monday, February 10, 2025. Friends may stop by the Gehrig-Stitt Event Center for a reception on Saturday, March 08, 2025, from 1:30-3:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gurley Volunteer Fire Department.

Margaret ‘Marie’ Sain, daughter of Oscar and Flora Rhine, was born on January 30, 1920, in Walthill, NE. Marie was a native of the Lodgepole community and after graduating from Lodgepole High School, she took practical nurse training at Fort Morgan, CO for one year. She then worked in Scottsbluff, NE doing private duty, at Harris Hospital in Chappell, NE, in Denver General, the JCRS Sanitarium in Denver and Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne, WY.
She was married to Charles ‘Chuck’ Searles in 1941 and to that union two children were born, Lloyd Searles and Karen Wahlquist. In 1949, Marie married Frank ‘Dewey’ Sain. They moved to Sidney, NE where Marie worked at the Taylor Hospital for 7 years and transferred to Memorial Hospital when it opened in May of 1955. Marie particularly enjoyed OB duty and especially enjoyed the excitement of helping bring new lives into the world. She had more than 30 years of nursing that she enjoyed and was commended for her dedication and her compassion. She retired in 1984 and moved to Gurley, NE to be close to her son and his family. She enjoyed her favorite hobby, genealogy and did some traveling. She also looked forward to and enjoyed visitors, playing rummy, marbles, dominos or putting puzzles together.
Marie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and an active member in the church women’s Relief Society for many years.
She entered the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care in Sidney in 2020 where she enjoyed making new friends and taking part in various activities. She was the Valentine Queen in February of 2020 and won a spelling be while there in April of 2021.
Marie is survived by her son Lloyd wife Kathy Searles of Gurley, NE, son-in-law Dale Wahlquest of Burley, ID. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, all of her siblings 2 brothers and 4 sisters, daughter Karen Walquist, and one great grandchild.
