SCOTTSBLUFF -- The Panhandle Polar Plunge committee and Nebraska Special Olympics have postponed the event.

On Friday, February 21, an update on the event was sent out by the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office.

"Our North Platte River venue was completely frozen over this morning,” Overman said in the written statement.

Due to safety concerns, the event has been moved to March 15.

“We are in the process of updating websites to reflect the change.  Online registration and fund raising will remain open,” Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said in the written statement Friday.

The event was originally planned for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, at the YMCA Camp at Riverside Park in Scottsbluff. The 2025 event is using the slogan “Be Bold Get Cold.”

A "Post-Plunge" party by Special Olympics Nebraska and supporters will be held immediately following at the YMCA Camp.
