STERLING, Colo. -- The Sterling Fire Department was called out on two mutual aid grass fires in two days.

In the first of a busy fire day C-Shift crews responded mutual aid the morning of Tuesday, March 25 with Peetz Fire/Rescue for a grass fire on Colorado Highway 113. Crews were quickly able to control the fire.

The second mutual aid fire of the day took crews to assist Merino Volunteer Fire Department for a grass fire near U.S. Highway 6 and Logan County Road 6. Attempting to keep the fire from running into the river bottom, crews from multiple area departments had to fight gusty winds and swampy terrain that claimed multiple vehicles as they worked to extinguish the fire.
