CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A hidden Apple AirTag helped law enforcement track down stolen construction equipment and led to the arrest of a Cheyenne man, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.

Deputies responded to a stolen property call on March 20 after a construction company reported multiple items stolen from a job site in Jefferson County, Colorado, on March 17. One of the stolen items—a Stihl concrete saw—had an Apple AirTag discreetly attached to it.

An employee from the company was able to trace the GPS signal to a residence in the 3700 block of Charles Street in Cheyenne. The company also provided deputies with surveillance footage showing the truck used during the burglary, which matched a vehicle parked in front of the residence.

Deputies secured a search warrant and discovered several stolen items inside the home, including the tracked concrete saw.

Dallas Gonzales, 44, of Cheyenne, was arrested on charges of felony possession of stolen property and interference with a peace officer. Authorities say burglary charges are pending in Jefferson County, Colorado.

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
