GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Karsyn Leeling, a Sidney High School graduate and freshman at the University of Nebraska, continued her strong collegiate debut with a personal-best high jump at the Pepsi Florida Relays this week.

Leeling cleared 1.79 meters (5-10 ½) to earn sixth place in the invite division of the women’s high jump — a new collegiate best for the former Gatorade Nebraska Girls Track and Field Player of the Year.

Her mark came on the opening day of competition, as the Huskers sent athletes to both the Florida Relays and the Stanford Invitational for one of the program’s biggest early-season weekends.

Leeling’s jump comes on the heels of a consistent indoor season, where she earned three top-four finishes in the high jump, including third-place performances at the Graduate Classic and Husker Holiday Open. She placed 13th at the Big Ten Indoor Championships earlier this year.

A 2023-24 Nike Outdoor Nationals champion and five-time Nebraska state champion, Leeling entered the collegiate ranks with a national high school lead in the high jump at 6-1 ½ — a mark that set both a Nebraska state record and led all U.S. and world high school performances at the time.

Off the track, Leeling is also excelling academically, having earned Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll honors in Fall 2024.

The Huskers continue competition this weekend in California and Florida, with several athletes posting top-10 national marks and personal records across multiple events.
