BROWNSON, Neb. – Multiple area fire departments responded to a stubble field fire northwest of Sidney on Wednesday that burned approximately 130 acres, according to Sidney Volunteer Fire Department Chief Matt Butts.

The fire call came in at 12:11 p.m. near the end of County Road 30 off County Road 105, close to the Sidney Lowe railroad tracks. Butts said the fire spread quickly across the stubble field and into nearby canyon land, burning a few trees but sparing nearby farm equipment.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze by early afternoon. As of 2:30 p.m., the fire was under control, and crews were still on scene monitoring for hot spots to prevent rekindling.

Crews from Sidney, Dalton, Gurley and Potter responded to the scene. The Peetz Fire Department was also dispatched but was canceled before arriving.

No injuries were reported and no evacuations were necessary. The exact cause remains under investigation.

The incident comes amid high fire danger across western Nebraska, where dry vegetation and spring winds continue to elevate wildfire risks.
