Spring 2025 observations of actively flowing water in the Lodgepole Creek show a consistent presence once again across western Nebraska. Assistant Manager Ryan Reisdorff reported approximately 112 miles of flowing water, spread across three main segments in the NRD, accounting for 65% of the 172.84-mile-long-creek that lies within Nebraska.

These figures are right in line with last spring’s numbers, which showed 120 miles flowing across six segments, or roughly 69% of the creek’s total Nebraska reach. All actively flowing segments noted this spring are shown on the detailed map.

In other news, the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) Board of Directors, following recommendation from the District Operations Committee, has approved the bid from Paul Reed Construction & Supply Inc. for the Oliver Reservoir Stilling Basin Rehabilitation Project. The stilling basin—a key structure that slows water velocity before it moves downstream—will undergo improvements to enhance its long-term effectiveness. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

The SPNRD Board meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at the district office, located at 551 Parkland Drive in Sidney. Meeting agendas and minutes are always available on our website at www.spnrd.org .
