NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol’s Carrier Enforcement Division conducted surprise commercial vehicle inspections in Keith County, placing multiple vehicles out of service due to safety violations.

The agency reported the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 26 vehicle inspections Wednesday.

Troopers found 57 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers also placed 6 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers placed 3 drivers out of service.

Vehicles are placed out of service for a variety of reasons relating to bad brakes or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks, according to the press release.

Troopers also issued a total of 15 citations and a total of 9 CVSA decals during the inspections. The decals indicate that the vehicle did not have any immediate safety issues.

“The effort focuses on commercial vehicles that may not pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.” NSP said.

The MAPS Team is funded largely by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Troopers check for compliance with federal safety regulations and enforce laws pertaining to weight, size, registration, dyed fuels, and permits associated with commercial vehicles.
