KIMBALL -- The crosswalk at Evergreen and 8th St. that leads to the walking path and dog park got a colorful makeover.

Members of the Kimball Area Foundation Fund – Jean Gilbert, Sharon Baker, Erin Jefferis and Nicole Snyder – organized the painting activity Saturday morning.

The design consists of a red and white background with black-painted paw and footprints.

“We thought it would be really cool because doggies are going to the dog park and people are walking to the trail,” Gilbert said. “It just seemed like the perfect motif.”

The vision began with Gilbert bringing the idea to the committee after hearing concerns from community members about the area.

“People expressed on Facebook how dangerous this street can be with people going really fast and how nice it would be to have a crosswalk going to the trail,” Gilbert said.

Jefferis and Snyder came up with an initial design and the committee finalized it then asked Erin’s husband, Mark Jefferis who is the art teacher, to create the stencils for the paw and footprints.

Jamie Bright with Activate Kimball also contributed to the project by offering her skill for design work as she and her sister Jessica Rocha have worked on other crosswalk projects around town.
