Sidney firefighters quickly extinguish minor grass fire at community garden

Firefighters in Sidney quickly put out a small grass fire Friday afternoon at the community garden north of the soccer fields.

SIDNEY — The Sidney Fire Department quickly put out a minor grass fire Friday afternoon at the city’s community garden north of the soccer fields.

Fire Chief Matt Butts said crews were dispatched around 3:16 p.m. after a tall plume of smoke was reported in the area. Firefighters arrived within minutes and had the blaze contained shortly after arrival.

The fire was limited to a small patch of grass and did not threaten any nearby property. No injuries were reported.

Chief Butts described the incident as a minor grass fire and said it was extinguished without issue.
