Firefighters respond to house fire near Central Elementary in Sidney

Firefighters were on scene of a house fire near Central Elementary in Sidney. Everyone inside made it out safely, and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Developing story.

SIDNEY - Firefighters in Sidney responded to a house fire Tuesday morning at 1714 Linden Street, located near Central Elementary School.

The call came in at 7:44 a.m. A Cheyenne County Sheriff's Deputy said all residents safely exited the home before emergency crews arrived. Nearby homes were also evacuated as a precaution.

Flames were reported in a downstairs room at the back of the house. Firefighters from Sidney and Potter responded, with mutual aid manpower requested at the scene. Two fire hydrants were being used as crews worked to contain the blaze.

Central Elementary staff were advised of possible smoke drifting toward the school.

The Sidney Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
