NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A fire broke out Friday evening at the former Log Cabin convenience store just west of North Platte along U.S. Highway 30, drawing all three North Platte fire stations to the scene, authorities said.

Because the blaze was outside the city, the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department was called in to assist and provide water support, the North Platte Fire Department said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control Friday evening, but crews encountered a large amount of lumber at the site. Chief Dennis Thompson said firefighters would remain on scene throughout the night to extinguish remaining hot spots and damp down material to prevent reignition.

Thompson confirmed to News 2 that no injuries were reported. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and detour via Buffalo Bill to Scouts Rest Ranch Road to keep routes clear for emergency vehicles.
