LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol has promoted longtime trooper Michael Grummert to the rank of major, where he will oversee western operations for the agency.

Grummert, a 25-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol, will serve as commander for Western Operations. His responsibilities include oversight of Troop Areas C, D and E of the Patrol Division, as well as the Carrier Enforcement Division.

He most recently served as commander of the Capitol Security Division. During his career, Grummert has worked in Carrier Enforcement and Patrol and served as a Drug Recognition Expert. He is also a veteran of the Army National Guard and a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.

“Major Grummert and Major Miller each have a long track record of excellent leadership for our team,” said Col. Bryan Waugh, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “The work they have put in throughout their careers and the integrity they have shown at every stage of the career journey has prepared them for these new roles. Our team is proud to have them serve in these command positions and our troopers will benefit greatly from their expertise.”

The patrol also announced the promotion of Greg Miller to major. Miller, a 26-year veteran, will serve as commander for Support Services, which includes Investigative Services statewide and Special Operations. He most recently served as Troop Area Commander of Troop A in Omaha.

Both Grummert and Miller are graduates of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
