Sidney to get 9 inches of snow? Cheyenne with a foot? Here's the latest.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday for the southern Nebraska panhandle and southeast Wyoming. Ogallala, Arthur and Tryon are also included in the warning.
SIDNEY - A low pressure system, bringing rain and snow, will come through the region from Montana and Wyoming.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday for the southern Nebraska panhandle and southeast Wyoming. Ogallala, Arthur and Tryon are also included in the warning.
Weatherology Meteorologist Emily Chipman expects the storm system to clear by late Thursday night into Friday.
"A general 5-9 inches inches of snow across the panhandle," Chipman said. "If you get more towards Cheyenne, they're looking at more towards 8-12 inches. It kind of varies from there, but around Sidney, around 5-9 inches. Go further west, into high elevations, you'll pick up more snow."
Chipman says scattered showers and a steady rain are expected Wednesday afternoon into the night. By 9 p.m., snow will begin to mix with rain, eventually changing to all snow by 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. Snow is forecast to fall most of the day Thursday.
The National Weather Service has 3 to 5 inches of snow falling Wednesday night and another 2-4 inches possible on Thursday. They advise travel could become difficult to impossible Wednesday evening through Friday morning. Plan on travel delays and snow covered roads.
A winter storm watch is in effect for northeast Colorado from midnight Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday. Grant, Hyannis and North Platte are also in the watch.
The northern panhandle is in a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday.
