Gusty winds knock out power to portions of Sidney
Gusty winds are blamed for knocking down a power line in southeast Sidney Wednesday morning.
SIDNEY - Gusty winds are blamed for knocking down a power line on Fort Sidney Road in southeast Sidney Wednesday morning.
Sidney City Manager David Scott said power was out in the Deaver and Queen Drive areas. The Western Nebraska Community College campus was also without power. Power was restored at around 8 a.m.
A high wind warning remained in effect for the Sidney area until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Winds were forecast to be sustained out of the northwest at 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. Periods of snow and blowing snow were also possible.
Wheat Belt Public Power District reported outages east of Lewellen from 9 a.m. to Lewellen due to a downed tree.
Nebraska Public Power District customers were without power Wednesday morning around the Scottsbluff and Mitchell areas.
Roads in Kimball, Banner, Morrill and Scotts Bluff Counties, along with southeast Wyoming and the northern panhandle, were either wet or partially covered in snow. Commuters were asked to use caution when traveling Wednesday morning.
Authorities have responded to numerous vehicles sliding off roads.
