SIDNEY, NE — Sidney preparing to ring in the new year with a fundraiser.

"It's going to be so much fun," Sidney Park Project Member Ashlee Sintler said. "Sidney doesn't have an event like this so people are getting dressed up, we're having a toast at midnight and we're just going to have lots and lots of fun tonight."

The Sidney Park Project transforming the Hillside Golf Course clubhouse into a casino for New Year’s Eve. The event another effort to raise money for a new playground at Sidney’s Legion Park.

"It is so awesome to have the community support behind, be able to sell out this event and have all these people coming that really want a new park in town and support what we are trying to fundraise for," Sintler said.

Organizer Ashlee Sintler says they're expecting about 150 guests to help them welcome 2022. They need just over $700,000 to make their dream a reality. This event gets them excitingly close. Sintler says with money already raised for casino night through tickets and sponsorships, they've passed the $600,000 mark.

"We're really hoping this is the frosting on the cake tonight," Sintler said.

Sintler says the tickets and sponsorships raised nearly $40,000. There’s more to come with a silent auction and donations made tonight.

The group of parents hoping for a new playground started fundraising earlier this year. The goal is to start construction in Spring 2022.
